In addition to an excellent NHS benefits package including subsidised on-site gym facilities, a competitive pension and flexible working, QEH has a genuine commitment to continuous training and development throughout all levels of staff. Working with partners they provide a comprehensive work experience programme focused on early career development such as employability programmes (e.g. Princes Trust and Kickstart) as well as Level 1,2 & 3 short courses, apprenticeships, functional skills and ESOL.

“We use our early careers work and apprenticeship programmes to ‘grow our own’. For example Nursing, Radiography, Pharmacy, ODP, OT, Project Management, and Leadership. We try to recruit our nursing and AHP apprentices from our existing Healthcare Support Worker pool, and our Kickstart programme saw 78% of learners move into employment or higher education, upon completion of the programme.”

Set in the beauty of West Norfolk, only 2 hours from London by train and within easy reach of Peterborough, Cambridge and Norwich, King’s Lynn is a town steeped in cultural and historical heritage. Furthermore, it has a rich sense of community, one that The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust values its place within.

“This hospital has a really special and unique place in the heart of the local community. We have support from a range and a breadth of stakeholders, but that isn’t by luck – that’s through involving them in everything we do, whether it be lobbying for a new hospital or involving Healthwatch and other organisations in our work to further improve patient engagement and experience.”

Laura Skaife-Knight, Deputy Chief Executive

In a “happy at home” survey conducted by RightMove in 2017, King’s Lynn was even ranked sixth nationally as one of the happiest places to live, based on aspects such as community spirit, feeling safe, the friendliness of locals, amenities and local services available, and earning enough to live comfortably.

“We are an incredibly friendly and forward-thinking Trust, which places a great emphasis on the importance of staff in providing the best possible healthcare for the people of West Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. In recent years, the building has received a number of exciting renovation projects, which are aimed to provide a good experience for our patients but also for our hard-working teams. We can now boast some of the best surgical theatres in the country, a specialist Breast Care Unit and a Midwife Led Birth Unit. We have a strong ethos of being part of a team with everyone being valued and playing their part to achieve the future success of the hospital.
