The Medical Imaging Department at the Townsville University Hospital is seeking Radiation Sonographer - Senior or Sonographer - Seniors with varied experience to fill future vacancies. Roles to be filled through this recruitment process may be of a full-time, part-time or casual nature. The Medical Imaging Service is a critical element of the THHS Tertiary level service capability and to support surrounding health facilities of the Health Service and Northern Queensland Hospital & Health Services.

The imaging service provides key diagnostic and interventional services to support front line critical care areas and clinical units.  MI teams assist and consult with neighbouring health facilities to improve levels of service integration and clinical outcomes.

Medical Imaging provides a multimodality clinical imaging service with access to imaging 24/7.

High quality patient outcomes are the primary focus with this objective supported by close and responsive links to clinical areas.

Key staff members are actively involved in HHS and regional service planning specifically in delivery of optimal medical imagingÔÇô Ultrasound, Xray, CT,┬á MR, Nuclear medicine and PET, Interventional and Neuro-Interventional imaging modalities.┬á

The imaging service is integrated around specific modalities /sections managing specific service delivery elements.┬á Medical Imaging services operate in compliance with the Radiation Safety Protection Plan ÔÇô Townsville Hospital and Health Service & Radiation Safety Act.

The medical imaging service is committed to providing professional development and educational opportunities, including specialised training in key clinical and operational service areas.  The department actively supports undergraduate clinical training and development and development education for graduates to achieve specialty imaging skills and accreditation.

The medical imaging service operates in a digital clinical environment linked to other QH facilities.

Requirements:

  • Mandatory:
    • Accredited Australian Sonographer Accredited Register (ASAR), with recognised qualifications
    • Post Graduate qualification in Ultrasound, or
    • An appropriate Degree or Diploma in Sonography from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Medical Radiation Professional (AHPRA):
    • If a Radiographer, the applicant must hold current registration with MRPBA (AHPRA), with recognised tertiary qualification in a Medical Radiation profession.
    • Hold a current Queensland Radiation Use License.
  • Desirable:
    • Evidence of significant professional development activities.
  • Appointment to this position requires JP-certified proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to commencement of clinical duties
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle.
  • Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD): Health Care Workers in Queensland Health whose occupation poses a potential risk of exposure to blood or body fluids are required to provide evidence of vaccinations or proof that they are not susceptible (due to prior exposure to the disease and therefore have natural immunity) to the following VPD's Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella and Pertussis (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis containing vaccine) according to the Queensland Health Policy.┬á
  • COVID-19 vaccination requirements: It is a mandatory condition of employment for the employee to be and remain vaccinated against COVID-19, as per Health Employment Directive 12/21 ( about:blank ) and Queensland Health Human Resources Policy B70 ( about:blank ).
