Responsibilities/Duties

Alberta Health Services is inviting applications from Family Physicians to join the Department of Family Medicine in Family Medicine Obstetrics (FMOB) in the Edmonton Zone under a joint partnership with AHS and the Mom Care Docs group.

Edmonton Zone hospitals are affiliated with the University of Alberta and serve as important training facilities for residents and students.┬á The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the worldÔÇÖs top 50 medical schools and as one of CanadaÔÇÖs premier health-education institutions.

The Mom Care Docs clinic has 13 family doctors and is supported by a PCN funded RN.

The recruited physician would be required to work at our office at The Allin Clinic and to provide inpatient care at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The typical model involves coverage for inpatient care for 24 hours on one week and then working in the clinic for a day on the next week. Weekend coverage is also required for 24 hours approximately once per month. We use the Accuro EMR at The Allin Clinic. Care is provided for patients throughout the pregnancy and for up to 6 weeks post-partum.

The Mom Care Docs clinic is planning to expand its scope and will be providing outpatient well baby care for unattached babies until 6 weeks of age in 2024. We are a group of family physicians who also provide low risk obstetrical care and as such, our preferred candidate would be willing to provide family medicine services at The Allin Clinic alongside their work in FMOB. Mom Care Docs works in a shared patient care model. We have group protocols, in line with SOCG Guidelines and Evidence Based Medicine, which allow us to provide seamless patient care. This is achieved in part, through attendance at remunerated monthly business meetings (in person or virtually) and the recruited locum physician is required to attend these meetings.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) is a tertiary hospital where family physicians work alongside obstetrics and gynecology and multiple subspecialties including on site NICU.  Together the obstetrical program preforms about 7500 deliveries per year. The family physicians who provide FMOB care at the RAH are all part of the Mom Care Docs group. The Mom Care Docs clinic is located in downtown Edmonton at the Allin Clinic. Our clinic provides compassionate, comprehensive and evidence-based pregnancy and post-partum care to low risk patients. We are also a teaching clinic affiliated with the University of Alberta and as such train medical students and resident physicians.

To apply, please forward a copy of your curriculum vitae and a letter of interest as well as the names of 3 references online through the doctorjobsalberta.com posting. We require at least one reference to be from a candidateÔÇÖs current medical leader or residency program advisor.

Applications meeting the requirements outlined in this notice will be forwarded to the Search and Select Committee and will begin being reviewed immediately. We thank all applicants for their interest; only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted. The competition will remain open until the position is filled.
