Alberta Health Services – North Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine Physician to establish a full-time practice in the community of GRIMSHAW. 

This position will provide services: Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, and Long Term Care.

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Duties include but not limited to:

·        Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of Grimshaw.

·        Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community.

·        Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services.

·        Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Emergency Department call schedule, as required.

·        Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies.

·        Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine.

·        Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.

·        Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned.

·        Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.

Community Information

GRIMSHAW is a small town located at the junction of Highway #2 and the Mackenzie Highway #35, commonly referred to as the “historic” MILE ZERO of the Mackenzie Highway.  It is here where the Mackenzie Highway begins its journey north to Hay River, and eventually to Yellowknife.  The Mackenzie Highway began as a rough trail in the 1820s, leading to the Northwest Territories.

 The name of the town was derived from Dr. M.E. Grimshaw, a pioneer doctor in the then village of Peace River Crossing in 1914.

 Grimshaw has a population of approximately 3,982 residents and offers indoor and outdoor recreational facilities within its borders; including an outdoor swimming pool, an arena, a curling rink, a family fitness centre, 6 Ball Diamonds, SK8 "N" Bike Park, an R.V. Park and a Seniors Drop In Centre.

 Grimshaw is second to none; in commemorating local and regional history.  Local residents and visitors take in the Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park and Lac Cardinal Recreation Area on the shores of Lac Cardinal are less than 10 kilometers to the northwest of Grimshaw.   Wilderness Park is less than 5 kilometers to the northeast of Grimshaw.

Museums include the Lac Cardinal Pioneer Village Museum, the Mile 0 Antique Truck Museum. And  Lac Cardinal Pioneer Village Museum . The energy and commitment of the people of Grimshaw is demonstrated in the numerous active community organizations. 

The Grimshaw Berwyn Community Health Complex sees approximately 3,982 emergency room patients per a year and is an active facility with six 24-hour observation beds and 20 extended care beds.  Patients requiring hospital admission (beyond 24-observation care) are transferred to Peace River for admission and hospital rounds for these patients are attended by the Grimshaw physicians.

Required Qualifications

·        Current Alberta Practice Permit or valid CPSA Letter of Eligibility to practice in the advertised position (proof of to be included with application).

·        Recent hands-on experience (within the past 1-2 years) in all areas of practice noted within the Description,as the sole provider in a rural setting

·        Rural Emergency Room Experience

·        Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

·        Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

 

Desired Qualifications

·        College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)

·        Pediatric Life Support (PALS)

·        Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
