An exciting opportunity with specialized focus in addiction medicine currently exists within Alberta Health Services Clinical Department of Family Medicine and Addictions and Mental Health. If your practice aligns with our clinical foundations of being detox recovery oriented, strength based and hope inspired, this may be the opportunity for you to make a difference in the lives of others. The detox role at the Addiction Recovery Centre (ARC), requires an integrated knowledge of counseling, pharmacology, internal medicine and public health.

Operating within a multi-disciplinary team including counselors, nurses, and various other clinical and administrative support roles, Physicians provide medical services to clients including primary care, writing/reviewing prescriptions, coaching and counseling, initiating medical protocols based on assessment, complete medicals and referral for ongoing treatment and regular consultations and medical leadership within the team.

This position has a range of 0.2-1.0 FTE depending on the successful candidate. The clinical time commitment will be flexible with opportunity for up to 5 half day clinics per week at ARC with some evening on call coverage (from home). In addition, on-call weekend coverage on a rotational basis will be required at ARC. Cross-coverage as part of the on-call roster at Henwood Treatment Centre (residential treatment) is also required.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have an MD, preferably with a CCFP designation. Family Physicians who currently hold addiction medicine certification or specialization or who have a keen interest in learning addiction medicine are encouraged to express interest. Experience with addictions and an ability to manage Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) effectively is an assets.

Salary/Benefits: Remuneration is fee for service with a highly attractive income guarantee and hourly rate for on-call.
