Alberta Health Services, Central Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine Physician to establish a full-time Family Medicine practice in the community of Two Hills. This position requires a scope of practice that includes:  Emergency Room Coverage and Emergency on call, management of acute care patient, long term care patients and community clinic.  

  • Acute Care - complete rounds Monday-Friday on their patients and rounds on weekends of all patients while on call in the ER.
  • Emergency Department - Would be on call in the ER department for 24 hours based on their schedule. The schedule is created by the medical clinic manager based on the physician's schedules/availability. 
  • Stroke and Geriatric Empowerment (SAGE) Rehabilitation Unit - Complete daily rounds on their patients, complete one-half day assessment of new patients to the unit as needed/scheduled and receive calls while on call in ER.
  • Long Term Care - Rounds on Wednesdays when scheduled, on call as needed.
  • Preferred skills in emergency deliveries for basic obstetrics, rehabilitation, palliative and geriatric care. 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have their primary residence within the community of Two Hills;
  • Establish and maintain full time community based practice within the community;
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;
  • Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Emergency Department call schedule, as required;
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine;
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care

 

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

We are located approximately 1.5 hours NE of Edmonton and 1.5 hours East of Lloydminster the two larger centers and approximately half an hour from St. Paul to the north and Vegreville to the south.

There are 7 churches, grocery store, 2 gas stations, Inn, UFA, Vehicle Registry Office, two convenience stores, two Mexican stores (both carrying food items from Mexico, clothing & material), two banks, four restaurants, bar, RCMP detachment, swimming pool, Farmers Market, Library, 9 hole golf course & driving range, skating rink and the Town is currently rebuilding a recreational facility, playground and curling rink with approximate opening in the winter of 2015/16. Two Hills Fish and Game has a fully stocked trout pond.

There are two schools from kindergarten to grade 12, Two Hills School and Two Hills Mennonite School currently catering to approximately 800 students. There is also a playschool available.

Within the County of Two Hills there are three lakes, Jack Fish, Sandy Lake & Lac Sante. All three have day areas as well as overnight camping. Lac Sante has a boat launch for day use. The Lakeland Breakers Outdoor Society operates and maintains a quad/snowmobile trail year round.

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application);
  • Recent and relevant experience in all areas of practice required, as the sole provider;
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS);
  • Pediatric Life Support (PALS);
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certificate of the College of Family Physicians (CCFP);
  • Preference given to those with recent rural experience;
