About the Role:You will tell the stories of the Sanger Institutes world-leading science to a variety of audiences, including project partners, internal stakeholders, the media and public.The role will involve embedding yourself in scientific programme activities, and creating compelling written, visual and digital content for our variety of external and internal channels, as well as for social media.Youll have a passion for science, and engage with the different researchers, projects and external collaborators to generate impact and excitement for strategically important projects.You will join infrequent scientific excursions, such as specimen collecting trips, public engagement events or conferences.You will be responsible for: Developing engaging, frequent content for external and internal communications across all available channels, with a focus on digital and new ways of reaching and engaging with our diverse audience both outside and within the Sanger Institute. Embedding in the scientific programmes to understand and engage with their scientific goals; be invested in the success and impact of the research and play a leading role in generating excitement for the science inside and outside the Institute. Liaising with a whole range of stakeholders and assisting them with daily communications tasks and queries in a proactive and anticipative way. Developing and proactively coordinating communications, ensuring they are accessible and effective in reaching target audiences. Proposing innovative and creative ways to develop content and engage the public via social media channels. Supporting the Head of Media Relations on both Institute and Campus-wide projects and future planning, working as part of the team to deliver key outcomes. Comfortably working with digital platforms and adopting new software as required. Attending events to create appropriate written and visual content, which can be shared across our channels.About You:This is a varied and fast-paced role for someone looking to develop their career in communications. You will need to be flexible and willing to take on a range of tasks, however there will also be an excellent opportunity to learn about scientific communications and social media in a world-leading scientific organisation.
