About the role
The Rural and Remote Mental Health Program provides mental health and alcohol and drugs services to rural and remote communities within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service area.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant for the Burdekin Community Mental Health Service works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and other service providers to provide specialist mental health and alcohol and drugs interventions for community members (and their families) across the lifespan who experience complex and severe problems relating to their mental health and/or alcohol, or other drug use disorders.

Skills and experience

  • Provide high level clinical assessment and intervention in the areas of mental health and alcohol and drugs, including, the ability to manage complex clinical situations within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Lead the delivery of evidence-based interventions including supporting the development of other clinicians in the use of evidence based therapeutic interventions.
  • Provide clinical leadership within a team to ensure high quality consumer care and organisational accountability.
  • Provide high level knowledge and skills to team training and continuing professional development activities which contribute to the specialist knowledge and skills of team members.

Role requirements
Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position. Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
