The opportunity  
This position will lead a team of Senior Ethics and Integrity Advisors to provide advice on industrial relations, complex case management, human resource policy, industrial framework, employment matters and support to organisational stakeholders to drive consistency of practice. 

This role will be expected to represent the Townsville Hospital and Health Service as an industrial advocate within a variety of forums including the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, Queensland Human Rights Commission and Fair Work Commission. The role will be responsible for developing detailed submissions and briefings and work closely with the Executive Director People, Strategy and Governance to recommend appropriate strategies for successful and timely resolution of complex workplace and industrial relations matters.

Role requirement

  • Tertiary qualification/s in a relevant field to the specialisation required by the role (for example human resources, industrial relations, labour law) would be highly desirable, with additional post graduate level qualifications/professional certifications preferable.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience in a role with similar complexity would be well regarded.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • High level skills and knowledge of workplace and industrial issues within a public sector context, including detailed knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire a detailed knowledge, of the Industrial Relations Act 2016 and the Public Sector Act 2022.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate within a high pressure and high volume work environment, providing expert advice on complex industrial and employment matters that inform defendable and high quality decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of industrial disputes, demonstrated through advocacy, negotiation and persuasion skills, and an in-depth knowledge of Industrial Relations Commission rules and procedures.
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in providing high level advisory and support services on workplace and industrial relations matters including workforce reform, legislative frameworks, policy issues and developments, trends and emerging issues at both a state and federal level in the public sector, particularly as it relates to the health environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in applying high level innovative and analytical problem solving, including the ability to operate flexibly and with agility to ensure success in a complex, rapidly changing and sensitive environment.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and influence others to achieve organisational objectives and high level capability in building productive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Well developed interpersonal skills, including demonstrated competence in high level liaison and consultation in a culturally diverse environment as well as the ability to build constructive relationships to negotiate and deliver outcomes.
  • Highly developed communication and oral presentation skills, including the ability to write high quality, concise reports, briefs and correspondence.
  • Initiative and drive to see that timeframes are met and organisational objectives and goals are achieved.
