About the role
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Clinical Nurse role functions within the multi-disciplinary to promote and deliver efficient, effective, clinically relevant, culturally safe and appropriate patient outcomes. The Clinical Nurse will provide expert clinical and health service knowledge in relation to a variety of health conditions and have a co-designed approach through community engagement to the development of policy, procedures and work process specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients accessing outpatient services across Metro North. The Clinical Nurse will apply principles of contemporary evidence-based consumer/person focused care, education, leadership and portfolio management.
The Clinical Nurse will provide support and direction to the Health Worker and non-registered nursing personnel in more complex situations.
The Clinical Nurse is required to support Metro North Outpatient Strategies provide culturally safe and responsive follow-up to decrease Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patient Fail to Attend (FTA) and Did Not Respond (DNR) for outpatient services.
The Clinical Nurse will work with a Health Worker as dedicated positions in the Clinical Recall Project and support Metro North Outpatients to successfully deliver on Metro North Health, Health Equity Strategy KPAs;
Support the multidisciplinary team to develop health literacy amongst Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people thereby empowering them to take an active part in their health care. Assist with developing cultural capability amongst staff working alongside the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker, Outpatient Strategies, Nurse Navigators, other Nursing staff and administrative staff in Outpatient Services across Metro North. Participate in appropriate professional organisations such as the National Association of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners (NAATSIHWP).
