The Role
Seeking  applications from qualified individuals for the role of a second Medical Oncology Advanced Trainee at our facility for the year 2024. This RACP-accredited training position spans 12 months and is set to commence in February 2024. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to acquire valuable and fulfilling clinical exposure in medical oncology within a regional cancer center. Responsibilities include offering supervised outpatient services to Medical Oncology patients and actively participating in the overnight and weekend on-call roster.

The Facility

The facility plays a significant role in cancer care for the western region of Melbourne, serving a catchment population exceeding 350,000. The medical oncology service presently employs five full-time oncologists, along with six visiting medical oncologists and four visiting haematologists. The junior team comprises a medical oncology fellow, an oncology advanced trainee registrar, two basic physician trainee (BPT) medical registrars, and three Hospital Medical Officers (HMO). One BPT and one HMO position specifically support haematology inpatient and outpatient services.  Beyond the weekly journal club, trainees will benefit from regular teaching sessions conducted by consultant staff and protected time to attend the VMOTG Friday teaching sessions.  Fortnightly meetings in oncology-radiology and oncology-pathology are also integral to our collaborative approach. Collaboration with the radiation oncology unit and the palliative care team, including the nearby inpatient palliative care facility enhances their comprehensive approach. 

The Requirements
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Eligibility for registration with the RACP for Advanced Physician Training.
  • Detailed knowledge of the investigation and management of acute and chronic general medical conditions.
  • Have received three doses of a COVID19 vaccine
