The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invite applications for a Pediatric Ophthalmologist at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary, Alberta.  

The successful candidate will be expected to have a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and to participate in medical student and resident teaching. The candidate will work Primarily within the Vision Clinic and will be provided operating room time at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.  The candidate will be expected to participate in retinopathy of prematurity screening of neonates at Neonatal Intensive Care Units across the city (foothills medical Centre Peter Lougheed Center, South Health Campus and the Rockyview General Hospital. In addition, the successful candidate will have a call obligation in accordance with both the Alberta Children’s Hospital Pediatric Opthalmology service and Alberta Health Services policies. 

The successful candidate will become a member of both the Section of Pediatric Surgery and the Section of Ophthalmology. Committee duties and active participation in the sections is required. 

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include a MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Ophthalmology, or equivalent, and a minimum of one year fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta. Please provide a letter of eligibility from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Preference will be given to applicants who do not require, or have completed, the CPSA Practice Readiness Assessment (PRA-AB). This position is considered sponsorship eligible by Alberta Health Services. Special training and/or interest in pediatric ocular oncology or oculoplastics will be an asset. 

Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery or equivalent. Fellowship trainings in Pediatric Surgery.
