The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Departments of Family Medicine (Division of Care of the Elderly) & Medicine (Division of Geriatric Medicine) in partnership with Alberta Health Services invites applications for an Attending Physician - Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital / Norwood.

 

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty is recognized as among the world’s top fifty medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Working in partnership with clinical sites across the Edmonton zone, the Clinical Section of Geriatric Medicine offers specialized services for older adults across acute, post-acute and community care.

The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is a nationally recognized site of rehabilitation excellence. It serves patients of all ages who require complex rehabilitation. Its interdisciplinary teams include sixteen professional disciplines, and there is an array of research and technology development opportunities for interested parties. Services for older adults include rehabilitation for older adults with physical and cognitive impairment, mental ill-health, and medical complexity. There is a dedicated clinic for outpatient care and a daily outpatient rehabilitation service.

Responsibilities will include the care of older adults transferred from acute care for further rehabilitation prior to discharge. As part of a multiprofessional team, the postholder will be responsible for the care of medically complex older adults, often with frailty and comorbidity to optimise medical outcomes. The postholder will also provide inpatient specialist consultations for older adults elsewhere in the hospital and to the adjacent Norwood Health campus. Participation in a weekly Geriatric Medicine outpatient clinic and out of hours cover for the adjacent Royal Alexandra Hospital (on rotation) as well as clinical bedside teaching is expected as part of this role. There is the additional opportunity to train in subspecialty care of adults with bladder & bowel continence problems.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered and arranged under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. Candidates will possess certification in either Geriatric Medicine (Internal Medicine) or Care of the Elderly (Family Medicine) with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or equivalent. Applicants should also be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
