The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Departments of Family Medicine (Division of Care of the Elderly) & Medicine (Division of Geriatric Medicine) in partnership with Alberta Health Services invites applications for an Attending Physician, Geriatric Medicine (IM) / Care of the Elderly (FM).

 

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty is recognized as among the world’s top fifty medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Working in partnership with clinical sites across the Edmonton zone, the Clinical Section of Geriatric Medicine offers specialized services for older adults across acute, post-acute and community care.

The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals treating more than 700,000 patients annually from across western and northern Canada. The hospital is part of the large Walter C. Mackenzie Health Sciences Centre, which includes the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Services for older adults provided by the Division include acute inpatient care, inpatient consultation services, a perioperative care and fracture liaison service and outpatient clinics, provided from the Kaye Edmonton clinic.

Responsibilities include participation in and further development of the Perioperative Care Service for Older Adults, eight- ten weeks per year of acute care of the elderly service and provision of a weekly geriatric outpatient clinic. Out of hours cover (on rotation) as well as clinical bedside teaching is expected as part of this role.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered and arranged under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. Candidates will possess certification in either Geriatric Medicine (Internal Medicine) or Care of the Elderly (Family Medicine) with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or equivalent. Applicants should also be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
