The role of the Director of Surgical Services lead the perioperative team by focusing on safe patient care while effectively managing operations. The Director of Surgical Services has 24/7 responsibility for their departments.What you will do in this role: You will accurately identify real/potential problems affecting the service and implement solutions with follow-through and communicationYou will actively participate in service, departmental, and hospital-wide committees as assigned, providing ongoing communication to those one representsYou will advance the customer experience in Surgical ServicesYou will coach subordinates by providing feedback, and constructive critique of work, facilitating individual development plans, and documenting their job performanceYou will adhere to all Human Resource policiesYou will effectively communicate departmental, organizational, and industry information to staffYou will facilitate evidence-based employee engagement practicesYou will effectively build strong relationships and networks to deliver upon organizational and department goalsYou will participate in employee and patient rounding and identify and mentor potential future leadersYou will enforce standards of care for surgical services and develop processes to measure and ensure consistent complianceYou will develop, implement, and evaluate an ongoing surgical services program that assures quality patient care consistent with the Hospital's missionYou will monitor compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policy, environmental, patient, and personnel safetyYou will oversee a PI program that consistently monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care.You will be responsible for department's operational excellence by ensuring the delivery of quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standardsYou will follow the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Blood borne and Airborne PathogensYou will enforce a safe procedural site and patient verification policyYou will monitor and respond to quality event reportingYou will support new program strategies and/or program enhancements which would expand patient servicesYou will develop, prioritize, and defend capital equipment requestsYou will be responsible for the fiscal management of the department; ensure proper utilization of organization's financial resourcesYou will advance the growth agenda for Surgical ServicesYou will strive to become the OR of Choice for physicians, patients, staff, and payers in the community they serveYou will demonstrate a poised and confident demeanor that reassures others and commands respect within the organization and the communityYou will develop and build strategic internal and external networksYou will promote consistent positive patient interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient serviceYou will practice and adhere to the Code of Conduct philosophy and Mission and Value StatementYou will perform other duties as assignedWhat qualifications you will need:A bachelor's degree in nursing requiredMaster's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred3+ years of experience in a leadership role preferredCurrently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state in which he or she practices, in accordance with law and regulation requiredCertified Nursing Operating Room (CNOR) preferredCertified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM) preferredGeneral Comments 292 BedsOR - 18, not including C-section ORs, right now they go to Labor & Deliver (2 of 18 are C-section rooms)Do not do open hearts, but do complex neuro, comprehensive stroke centerRobotics - 6 XI robots, do Ortho there, heavy ortho spine, have Mazor robotLooking to grow ortho, neuro, spine, plus oncology, have GYN oncology that is a niche for them, heavy oncology presence thereHave HCA employed anesthesia group, physician splitters, a mix of employed, splitter surgeons, independent but loyal surgeon group as wellChallenges Need to teach some of the basics, look at policies/processes/etc.In a joint commission windowVolume anywhere between 35-55 on average, busy day 52-55 casesHave about 4-6 Managers under the Director, report to the COO (Candi Carroll)Staffing getting better, has been one of the biggest challenges, the Division's support for them to have contract labor is greatSalary Range- 130 K- 170 K (based on leadership YOE, internal equity, etc)** Bonus potential up to 22.5% potential with a standard target of 15% potential
