About the RoleThis is a laboratory-based role where you will be responsible for supporting the handling of 30K samples every month.The Sample Preparation (SP) team is responsible for the high throughput processing of samples to library preparation and sequencing on the Illumina platform by quality check and cherry-pick of selected samples.Working as part of a team you will be expected to produce quality data within defined timeframes and assist with the everyday running of the laboratory. You will have a strong understanding of the team product portfolio and the scientific theory underpinning the processes.The Sample Preparation team performs: Sample registration and selection followed by normalisation /cherry-picking /shearing to feed the library preparation teams (Covaris acoustics shearing, Agilent Bravo, Tecan, Beckman Coulter i5 and SPT Mosquito and Dragonfly liquid handling platforms) Quality control of DNA /RNA on fluorescent system and TapeStation /qPCR aimed at ready-made libraries. DNA /RNA extraction from differing input materials and labware on QiaSymphony, QiaCube, DragonFly or manually for smaller projects. Genotyping with the Fluidigm technology. Working as part of a team you will be expected to: Plan, organise and schedule own workload in line with priorities Recognise and flag anomalies to senior staff Maintain equipment to ensure it is fit for purpose and operating within set validation criteria Help with the day-to-day running of the laboratory and be active and keep track of your own training recordsEssential skills BSc in a biological Science or relevant experience. A basic and general understanding of molecular biology and associated practical techniques relevant to the role. Computer literate: Microsoft Office programmes including Word and Excel. Excellent organisational and planning skills in managing competing priorities in a busy environment. A high level of interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently, correctly interpret basic scientific data and work without supervision. Understanding of Quality Management Systems, SOPs and HS procedures.
