About you: 

You have demonstrated experience and skills associated with developing, implementing, and evaluating health initiatives, particularly those related to alcohol and other drug use and knowledge of contemporary treatment approaches in the alcohol and other drugs field. You have high-level written and oral communication skills including, interpersonal liaison, consultation, negotiation, and report writing and can develop and deliver Health Promotion and Educational programs to promote positive Drug and Alcohol Harm minimisation focussing on self-determination, community empowerment and community participation.

Your opportunity: 

To work within a multidisciplinary Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs Service (ATODS) team to ensure that the delivery of Consumer Care reflects the Principles of Primary Health Care and Harm Minimisation. Assisting and developing, implementing, evaluating, and reporting on initiatives aimed at reducing the harm associated with the use of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug use on the Cassowary Coast. To provide coordinated delivery of prevention activities, education and training for community members, government, and non-government agencies across all age groups on the Cassowary Coast.

Your role: 

  • The position of AO4 ATODS requires the incumbent to be indigenous and be accepted by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Community.
  • In accordance with the Queensland Health Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework 2010 – 2033 all employees working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities will be required to demonstrate cultural knowledge, skills, and behaviours relevant to their roles.
  • Maintain the Needle and Syringe Program, provide services to NSP consumers, ordering and stocktake of supplies, oversee the NSP dispensing machine, stocking, collecting monies, banking.
  • Work when required covering administration, answering phones, and attending to administration duties.
  • Coordinate community awareness, education, and development of activities, particularly those related to reducing the harms from excessive alcohol and tobacco use.
  • Person centred cultural support encompassing the values and beliefs of the individual participating in screening assessments, early identification and intervention, counselling, support health promotion and education and training programs.
