As an Advanced Environmental Health Scientist/Officer, you'll be offering high-level policy advice on state-wide operational practices, service improvements, and environmental health hazards and providing legislative guidance to line managers, senior management, and stakeholders both within and outside the discipline.

The role  
Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Hazards, Science and Regulation, Environmental Hazards Unit, in the Health Protection and Regulation Branch, Department of Health, you will diligently adhere to defined service quality standards and health and safety policies, ensuring the provision of high-quality and safe services. Embodying Queensland Health's core values, you will leverage your expertise in environmental and human health systems to proactively anticipate, assess, and mitigate risks to human health from environmental hazards. 

Your role will encompass providing specialized policy and technical advice on legislative requirements for various environmental hazards to key stakeholders, including the Minister and Director-General. You will play a pivotal role in leading the development and implementation of legislation and interventions, collaborating across disciplines and applying expert scientific knowledge. Utilizing your expert-level understanding of environmental health, you will contribute to evidence-based solutions for complex issues, formulate program goals, and prepare comprehensive reports on the health impacts of environmental-related hazards.

The successful person
For success in this position, you must highlight specialized knowledge, skills, and expertise in contemporary environmental health practice or science, with a focus on toxicology. Membership, or ability to qualify for membership of, the Australasian College of Toxicology & Risk Assessment would be looked upon favourable.
Your proven ability at a high level should include applying evidence-based principles for intricate decisions, offering authoritative advice to diverse audiences, including environmental health colleagues, senior managers, and other stakeholders on matters related to environmental hazards. In particular have the ability to explain complex scientific concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Furthermore, your record of accomplishment should reveal proficiency in leading change through quality and service improvement initiatives. Your analytical skills in critically assessing data should also be evident.
