About the role

The primary objectives of the GP with Special Interest model include:

  • Appropriately provide for the needs of specific cohorts of patients who require more intensive care than the traditional GP models can provide, but who may not require the specialist led high-complexity management facilitated by the hospital system.
  • To facilitate holistic patient care by utilising expertise, perspectives, and resources of practitioners from both  primary and secondary care.
  • To improve collaboration and resource-sharing, and create opportunities for innovation, quality improvement activities and processes, education, and upskilling, between primary and secondary care providers and networks.

The purpose of the GP with Special Interest role:

  • Deliver high-quality outpatient services within the scope of clinical practice granted by the appropriate Medical and       dental Credentialing Sub-Committee Committee at the hospital(s) in which you perform this work.
  • Provide high quality medical care under the supervision and guidance of the consultant medical staff.
  • Actively participate in quality activities including patient safety, clinical audit, research, and service planning activities for the Gynaecology Specialist Outpatient Department.

About you

  • Appointment to this role requires proof of qualification and specialist registration in General Practice or Rural and Remote Medicine with the Medical Board of Australia
  • A Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), or the Australian College of Rural    and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or equivalent
  • Whilst not mandatory, clinical experience and/or professional registration or membership with an appropriate authority will be well regarded.
  • Additional qualifications and a demonstrated strong interest in Women's Health and in particular, Contraceptive Health will be well regarded.
  • Any or all of the following additional qualifications are desirable but not mandatory
    • Evidence of training in insertion and removal of intrauterine devices (IUDs) and etonogestrel implants
    • DRANZCOG
    • RANZCOG Certificate of Women's Health
    • Family Planning Alliance of Australia National Certificate in Reproductive & Sexual Health
    • Completion of appropriate non-directive pregnancy support counselling training
    • Certified Prescriber of MS-2 Step (mifepristone, misoprostol)
    • Interest in supporting learning of junior medical staff of the hospital
    • Certified copies of your qualifications are required to be provided with your application.
    • The successful applicant must have Scope of Clinical Practice (SoCP) awarded by a Metro North Hospital and Health Service Credentialing and SoCP committee. Information presented for application will be presented to the committee during the selection process, and all appointments are subject to maintenance of SoCP within the Clinical Service Capability Framework for the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken. This process must be completed prior to commencement.
