About you: 

You have previous work experience within the healthcare setting, ability to undertake and successfully complete the Australian Institute of Orthopaedic Technologies (AIOT) training modules, theory exams and practical assessments level 1-4 ( within a negotiated timeframe) upon commencement of the role. You can work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and communicate effectively with patients and patients' families. You possess computer skills such as Microsoft office and excel and you are committed to ensuring safe, quality care for all patients and their families.

Your opportunity: 

To provide operational and educational support in the efficient functioning of the Orthopaedic Department through provision of a comprehensive cast and technician services to adults and children. These activities are undertaken under the direct supervision and guidance from the senior medical officers of the Orthopaedic Department and in collaboration with the Multidisciplinary Team.

Your role: 

  • Undertake and successfully complete the Australian Institute of Orthopaedic Technologies (AIOT) training modules, theory exams, and practical assessments level 1-4 as provided by Queensland Health.
  • Under direct supervision of a Certificate IV completed plaster technician, and within traineeship scope, conduct orthopaedic casting and appliance applications in consultation with and as requested by Medical Officers and the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Under direct supervision of a Certificate IV completed plaster technician or Medical Officer provide education and information on orthopaedic casting, appliances, and their care to patients and/or carer/guardian.
  • Maintain an acceptable standard of technical proficiency through ongoing development of knowledge and skills in plaster application, fracture types and anatomy.
  • Minimise risk of falls through seeking support for patients who have compromised mobility and alerting multi-disciplinary team members of potential risk.
