In accordance with the Mission and Values of Northern Health, and working collaboratively and in partnership with the interprofessional care team in the provision of person-centered and recovery oriented care the Specialized Mental Health and Substance Use Liaison performs intake assessment, offers crisis intervention, and provides input into the care of patients experiencing difficulties with mental health and/or substance use concerns in the Emergency Department, Acute care and community. Provides input into the care of patients awaiting transfer for further assessment or inpatient admission in relation to complex MHSU. Assists with ensuring effective patient flow for assessed patients through collaboration with Emergency Department nurses, other emergency service providers, the specialized and interprofessional community mental health and substance use team(s) and other community service providers. Assists in adapting care plans to address MSHU needs, with final dispositions authorized by the physicians and/or consulting Psychiatrist. The Specialized MHSU Liaison works in close association with specialized and interprofessional community mental health team(s), agencies, and other community service providers.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days, Evenings - 09:18 to 20:30, Rotating

Kitimat General Hospital and Health Centre is a 20-bed Acute Care unit including 2 maternity beds. It integrates Acute Care, residential care, public health and community care in one facility. The services include:
• Emergency
• Physiotherapy
• Radiology
• Laboratory
• Diabetes and Chronic Disease management
• Outpatient Community Chemotherapy clinic
• Regional Orthopaedic Centre
• Regional Palliative Care Nurse consultant
• Mountainview Lodge a 36-bed residential and complex care facility
• Public Health team

Kitimat Set in a beautiful and natural ocean, mountain and valley paradise, Kitimat is located on the Douglas Channel just a few miles off British Columbia’s inside passage. Kitimat was built in the 1950’s and is one of BC’s youngest coastal communities. Main industries include an aluminum smelter, a pulp and paper mill and a petrochemical manufacturer. The population of Kitimat is approximately 8,236. The community has three elementary schools, two secondary schools, and one post-secondary school. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or other relevant allied health discipline. Two (2) years’ recent, related experience working with clients and families with, or affected by, mental illness and substance use disorders, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Eligible for registration with relevant professional association.

• Assessment and Intervention – Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
• Ability to operate related equipment including proven ability to utilize computer technology.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
