The Acute Care Team at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Consultant to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity

Develop and deliver primary mental health care services that promote community development and enhance the capacity of the Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander communities for self-determination in its mental health and social-emotional well-being. Services and activities include prevention, education, intervention and promotion to people, families and community groups, in keeping with mental health service standards.

The position will report organisationally to the team leader of the Acute Care Team (ACT). The position will be primarily based in the Mackay Base Hospital Emergency Department as well as the Mackay Mental Health Inpatient Unit, however may be required to work from other units as part of its role to support clients who identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. The position will work alongside the Emergency Department Senior Mental Health Clinicians.

About the Team

The Acute Care Team is the first point of contact to public mental health services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Team will undertake triage and may facilitate the referral of the consumer to a more appropriate internal and/or external service such as a community mental health team, an alcohol and drug service or primary health care.
