About the role

Day to day management of Senior Medical Officers within West Moreton Health's Rural Health Services remains with the Director of Nursing/Facility Manager of each hospital.  This includes rostering, payroll, annual leave, sick leave, backfill of roster gaps, mandatory training compliance and general issues.

Some of the key capabilities & accountabilities of the role are:

  • Delivery of the provision of Rural Medical services to patients in accordance with the standards of the discipline and the ethics of the profession.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of patient care within the Rural Health Services of West Moreton Health including the management of complex clinical situations.
  • Provide robust clinical leadership and be responsible for overseeing, developing and/or implementing clinical policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to Rural Medical service provision.
  • Lead the recruitment of suitably qualified and competent Medical Staff to work across our Rural Health Services and meet the needs of our communities.
  • Develop strategies to minimise clinical risk and ensure quality and safety protocols are maintained to enable the delivery of safe, quality care closer to home to our patients.
  • Lead service planning and delivery across the care continuum and achieve against service performance and relevant standards.
  • Lead a clinical team in a multidisciplinary and multifacility environment.
  • Liaise and collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective team functioning, positive patient outcomes and stream objectives.

 

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Clinical and technical expertise with appropriate knowledge, skills and ability to deliver quality medical service to inpatients and outpatients, independently, in a rural setting where access to investigations can often be limited.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and lead other staff including providing direction to staff within a changing & innovative work environment. High level oral and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to principles of quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance.
  • Commitment to education including a demonstrated personal commitment to continuing medical education.
  • Sound knowledge at a strategic level of human resource management issues & workforce engagement, and how they impinge on contemporary health service medical practices.
