About us:

Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service covers an area of 142,900 square kilometres. We go as far as Tully in the south, Cow Bay in the north and Croydon in the west.

The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.

About you:

In your new role you will…

  • Demonstrate high level Occupational Therapy clinical knowledge and skills in holistic complex assessment, intervention (equipment prescription, home modification, functional capacity and care need recommendations, report requirements, discharge planning) and care coordination in the context of NDIS.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide occupational therapy clinical services of a complex nature including rapid prioritisation, management and discharge planning of patients in a complex clinical environment.
  • Ability to provide clinical advice to professional and operational supervisors regarding service delivery and improvement opportunities within a cross cultural environment.

About your opportunity:

In this position you will deliver high level Occupational Therapy clinical services (including case consultancy), specific to complex care and discharge planning, for those eligible and accepted onto the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), to promote efficient discharge in conjunction with an extensive range of internal/external stakeholders.

About your role:

  • Involvement in service provision to patients as part of the Occupational Therapy Department public holiday and weekend service, and out of hours roster as operationally required.
  • Utilise high level Occupational Therapy knowledge and skills in the area of NDIS and complex discharge planning to provide advice, clinical guidance and consultation to CHHHS senior management, clinical staff and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide and actively contribute to the development of inter-professional competence for all clinicians involved in the area of NDIS to improve outcomes for NDIS eligible patients living with a disability.
  • Liaise and work effectively in a professional manner with clients and their carers, other health professionals, students and external agencies to achieve a client centred approach, utilising negotiation and conflict resolution skills as required.
