We are delighted to advertise for Junior Fellows in Paediatrics here at UHS. These exciting posts will comprise 2 x 6 month jobs in one of: general paediatrics/subspecialty medical paediatrics/paediatric surgery/paediatric orthopaedics/paediatric cardiology/Neonates/Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

You will be working alongside an enthusiastic team of General and subspecialty paediatricians to deliver a secondary/tertiary care service for the children of the Southampton area, which has a population of 400 000 as well as tertiary services for the South Coast. The hospital has 140 Paediatric beds with over 60 Paediatric consultants covering all tertiary specialties (see below). The tertiary population serviced by Southampton Children’s Hospital varies between approximately 2.8 to over 4 million depending on subspecialty.

Main duties of the job

You will be providing clinical service to one of general paediatrics/subspecialty medical paediatrics/paediatric surgery/paediatric orthopaedics/paediatric cardiology/NICU/Paediatric Emergency Medicine teams on their full shift rota. This work will include ward rounds, clinical meetings, clerking new patients and reviews. You will participate in the relevant out of hours rota based on the department you work in. 

You will have the following as a minimum:

  • Full GMC registration.
  • Completion of the Foundation Programme (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working in the NHS

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited.  UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
