Job Description

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyze and obtain comprehensive medical information and family history in order to identify at risk individual.
Provide supportive counselling to families, serve as patient’s advocates, and refer individuals and families to
other specialties, if the need arises.
• Explain the different aspects of genetics to families such as inheritance patterns, clinical and test procedures,
reproductive/prevention options, and risk occurrence/reoccurrence. Review pending medical record charts and
obtain references of existing and new patients and their family members, if required.
• Maintain detailed patient records, generate pedigree and communicate medical and risk assessment in patient
letter and physician letter if needed. Conduct generic tests under collaborative agreement protocol.
• Call for immediate follow up appointment in case of abnormal results (chromosomal, molecular, metabolic and
newborn screening). Run two genetic counseling clinic per week, as applicable in the area of assignment.
• Assess psychological or emotional needs of the patients in regards to stress, psychosocial issues and marital
conflicts. Refer patients and their families to the appropriate educational material, support group and other
community resources.
• Work closely with colleagues, internal and external healthcare professionals and other agencies to ensure
continuity of care through counseling, testing and follow-ups under legislation of genetic counseling service.
• Develop clinical protocols and bioethics policies. Keep abreast of development of genetics and genomics by
participating in professional organizations or conferences.
• Participate in the ongoing educational and professional development activities of Genetic program. Engage in
the research activities related to the medical genetics and genetic counseling.
• Perform other job related duties.

For Bachelor degree holder: Minimum of 3 (three) years’ position-related experience in genetic counseling or related field in comparable setting/environment – Essential

For Master degree holder: Minimum of 1 (one) year position-related experience in genetic counseling or related field in comparable setting/environment – Essential

NASCDP - Nursing -Allied Health Saudi Career development (Training program) 

Registration with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties – Essential

English Language: Level – I – Essential
