• Provide patient care in conducting apheresis procedures in line with relevant policies and safety standards. Prepare and document the administration in collecting donors’ blood components. Observe, monitor and record patients' clinical conditions, the infusion of blood components (or specialized fluids) and the apheresis equipment. Maintain records and communicate with the healthcare team. Maintain knowledge of resources for therapeutic effects. Escalate any adverse events/reactions as per policy.
• Collaborate with the patient/family and other members of the health care team to develop and update a plan of care that is consistent with the medical diagnosis and based on the patient's changing physical, psychosocial and age related requirements.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with the organizational policies and procedures in collaboration with infection prevention and control department, patient safety department and other support personnel. Ensure adequate supplies and readiness of apheresis equipment are available at all times, and report maintenance issues, broken or damaged instruments and equipment.
• Practice within the established hospital and department standards, policies and procedures. Demonstrate required skills and knowledge of basic principles, strategies and tools of Quality Improvement to maintain privileging in the apheresis area/TMS.
• Provide assistance with the technologists and donor recruiters within the TMS.
• Initiate appropriate chain of command if unable to resolve issues. Act as a resource within the apheresis service area for new employees, trainees and other staff. Participate in the continuing medical education (CME) activities.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, fire and disaster plan, laboratory health and safety standards, Joint Commission of International Accreditation (JCIA) standards, Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI), College of American Pathology (CAP) standards, American Associate of Blood Banks (AABB), and other relevant regulating and accrediting bodies.
