Practice Details:

Northern Health is seeking a Academic Psychiatrist to join the Department of Psychiatry in Prince George.

We welcome all interested candidates, including new in practice physicians and those holding a provisional license!

The Department of Psychiatry of the University Hospital of Northern Health (UHNBC) has full-time and/or part-time opportunities for Psychiatrists providing Adult General Psychiatry services. An interest in ECT and/or neurostimulation would be an asset.

There are inpatient psychiatry opportunities as well as outpatient opportunities. The outpatient opportunities are largely split into two services. The COAST team provides services for people with severe persistent mental illnesses such as Psychotic Disorders and Bipolar Disorders. The CAST team provides services for people with anxiety disorders, depressive disorders and personality disorders.

There is an opportunity for either Telehealth to support rural and remote communities or travel to rural communities. On call responsibility is mandatory for UHNBC psychiatry services. As Northern Health is part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine Northern Medical Program there is opportunity for training of medical students and residents and applying for a clinical appointment is expected.

Administrative duties of the position include attending clinical team meetings and Department of Psychiatry meetings.

UHNBC is the Regional Hospital for Northern BC serving both the immediate population of Prince George (approximately 87,000) and is a referral center for outlying communities (total population approximately 400,000). It is the main teaching center for Medical Students in the Northern Medical Program of UBC and provides teaching for UBC Residents in several specialties. A Cancer Centre opened on the hospital site in the fall of 2012 which includes Radiation and Medical Oncology. The ongoing development of UHNBC as a Regional Center and teaching center makes this an exciting time to join the Medical community in Prince George.

  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)

Hours of work: 0.5 FTE
On call requirements: 1:7
