Open Cut Examiner (OCE)

Our global operations are located in two of the largest and most productive metallurgical coal basins in the world, the Bowen Basin in Queensland, Australia and the Central Appalachian region of the US, servicing customers throughout the Asia-Pacific, Americas and Europe.

Curragh Mine is one of the largest open-cut coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin and located only 12 kilometres from the local township of Blackwater.

About the Role

We currently have a vacancy for permanent Open Cut Examiner (OCE) in the Curragh Main Mining team working on the 7/7 Roster, and a $10,000 sign on bonus available!

As one of the OCEs on site at Curragh you will be responsible for ensuring mining operations are always carried out in a safe manner by conducting mandatory inspections, compliance audits, SOP Reviews, risk assessments and increasing the awareness of the processes and procedures required under the SHMS and the Coal Mining Safety and Health legislation. 

What You'll Do: 

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure compliance.
  • Monitor and enforce safety regulations and policies.
  • Identify and assess mining risks.
  • Participate in accident investigations.
  • Assist in safety training programs.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and reports.
  • Foster communication and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement through process enhancements and safety initiatives.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Open Cut Examiners Certificate of Competency (QLD);
  • Experience working as an OCE;
  • Knowledge of statutory laws and regulations governing open cut coal mining;
  • Current First Aid Certificate (including CPR);
  • S1, S2 and S3, G2 accreditations;
  • Ability to drive a high-performing safety culture that delivers safe production outcomes.
