What you will be doing: ?
An exciting opportunity is available for a Occupational Therapist to join the Older Persons Mental Health Unit on a temporary full time basis. The Older Person’s Mental Health Unit (OPMHU) is a 20 bed inpatient unit providing inpatient care and treatment for older people living with mental health issues. The service is available to people over the age of 65 years and Indigenous people from the age of 50 (with their consent).

The role of the occupational therapist is to deliver recovery-oriented occupational therapy services to consumers and their families as part of an integrated mental health service. The occupational therapist will: 
- Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, recovery focused and evidence based individual and group interventions to promote occupational participation.
- Provide consultation and care coordination to ensure safe discharge from the OPMHU.
- Contribute to ongoing improvement and overall functioning of the mental health service.
- Positively and proactively contribute to strengthening partnerships between the mental health service and other service partners both internal and external.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection Criteria to be Addressed :

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated capabilities for recovery-oriented mental health care and a commitment to the development of recovery oriented approaches to occupational therapy in mental health.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilise occupational therapy assessments and interventions to support consumers’ recovery utilising independent professional judgement and seeking supervision in line with level of experience, knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, engage in open communication, contribute to a positive team environment and actively contribute to the learning and development of others.
  • Demonstrated high level written documentation, computer competency and oral communication skills.
  • Able to participate as a member of the team in quality improvement activities, development of policies and procedures and clinical research.
  • Willingness to provide supervision and support to students on placement in line with level of experience.
  • Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to use same for work purpose travel
