About us:

The Specialist Outpatients Department (SOPD) spans 3 levels of the Rockhampton Hospital covering 9 major specialties – Cardiology, Dermatology, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), General Surgery, General Medicine, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics and Urology. There are various other visiting specialties including Pacemaker clinic, Adult Congenital Heart Disease outreach clinic as well as a number of telehealth clinics e.g. Inflammatory Bowel Disease clinic.

The SOPD team works closely with a wide range of other departments including Renal Services, Cancer Care Services, Allied Health, Department of Child Safety, Operational Services, and Community Services. SOPD also works collaboratively with other facilities within CQHHS and across the State with other Hospital and Health Services in order to have patients treated closest to home.  

About the role:

The Registered Nurse works within scope of practice to assume responsibility for delivering competent, evidence-based nursing care. The position works collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and reliable care is provided within the dynamic Specialist Outpatients Department setting.

  • Accountable for Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and own standards, actions and the outcomes of own nursing practice and supervision of unregulated healthcare workers.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills, experience, competence, and effective integration of theory to practice.
  • Apply evidence-based guidelines to achieve positive care outcomes for recipients of healthcare services as delegated by the Clinical Nurse.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse/Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) in clinical and organisational governance through active participation in team leadership and decision making.

About you:

To be successful in this role you must have proof of qualification and registration as a Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Well-developed clinical knowledge and problem-solving skills in a high-quality client-orientated health service delivery model.
  • The ability to provide clinical nursing leadership in a multidisciplinary environment and demonstrate sound knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and theory.
  • Proven ability to use a variety of formal and informal educational strategies to develop nursing staff's skill and knowledge in evidenced based practice.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and sensitively with all levels of staff, patients, and the general public.

Salary information:

Total remuneration value of up to $117,580 p.a.. is comprised of:

  • A hourly rate between $40.51 - $51.97 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
