About you: 

You are a qualified Medical Practitioner registered, or eligible to register with the Medical Board of Queensland. You have demonstrated clinical experience and skills, including Paediatrics and willingness to participate in teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels and demonstrated commitment to continuing professional education including maintenance of personal knowledge and skills.

Your opportunity: 

To assist the Clinical Director, Staff Specialists and Senior Medical Staff to ensure that Paediatric services provided by the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service are of the highest standard and delivered in an efficient and effective manner given available resources.

Your role: 

  • This position reports to the Clinical Director of Paediatrics within the Cairns Hospital.
  • Under the supervision of the relevant specialists, initiate, maintain, and be responsible for the clinical care of children and young people in the inpatient areas of Paediatrics, Adolescent ward, Birth suite, Maternity and the Special Care Nursery, children in Emergency Department and specialist outpatients.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of junior medical staff to ensure that appropriate standards of care are maintained, and that junior medical staff are trained to adequately fulfil their duties.
  • Conduct daily and regular review of all patients in Paediatric Wards and Special Care Baby Unit, and patients awaiting paediatric consultation in the Emergency Department and Specialist Outpatient clinics.
  • To ensure comprehensive, accurate, and concise medical records are maintained for patients with an appropriate signed and dated legible entry in the patient's medical record on every attendance upon a patient.
