Tell me more...The Business Support Officer functions will provide assistance and support for primary health care workforce to obtain optimum collection and collation of patient data information within the Best Practice patient information system. The role will ensure accurate data is maintained and will also provide assistance and improve the functions of processes for Medicare billing services against Rural and Remote Medical Benefits Scheme. This role provides high quality and confidential administrative support services during Medical Officer visits to a number of Torres Strait outer island primary health centres, including preparing documentation required under the General Practice Standards and Rural and Remote Medical Benefits scheme, and as such, the ability to regularly travel is required.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Maintain effective time management by prioritising email, appointments, correspondence and telephone calls.
  • Obtain and organise necessary documents required relevant to the Northern Executive Leadership team for discussion at meetings, for example reports, briefing notes, relevant correspondence.
  • Undertake research activities and participate in projects, agreements, plans and data collection and analysis of information, including the writing of reports and recommendations, as required.
  • Liaise, consult and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including senior management, nursing agencies, representatives from other departments and professional bodies on a broad range of nursing issues.

Requirements for the role:

  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a ‘C' Class Drivers Licence. An appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty.
  • It is a mandatory condition of employment in this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough) hepatitis B.
  • Pre-employment screening, including criminal history and discipline history checks, will be undertaken on persons recommended for employment. Roles providing health, counselling and support services mainly to children will require a blue card, unless otherwise exempt.
