An opportunity has become available for a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist (Cardiology with Special Interest in Electrophysiology) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10,000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

About the role

Work as part of a team of physicians to provide a comprehensive cardiac device and rhythm management clinical service across the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (GCHHS). Provide leadership to develop a versatile cardiac service with a strong academic profile. Provide clinical care to patients and clinically manage, on a day to day basis, the associated multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the provision of appropriate patient care. Provide professional leadership within Cardiology as well as the Division of Medicine and provide training, education and supervision to junior medical staff and other health care members.

Requirements for the role

  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis screening.
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRACP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and registrable as a Cardiology specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Successful completion of an advanced clinical fellowship in cardiac device and rhythm management service at a reputable centre of excellence.
  • Experience in basic and advanced electrophysiology procedures including electrophysiology studies and radiofrequency ablation of cardiac arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation by pulmonary vein isolation procedure. Training and expertise in more complex electrophysiology and ablation procedures such as scar-related ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation would be desirable.
  • Thorough knowledge on cardiac arrhythmias and the management of the same.
  • Training and experience in safe implantation and follow up of cardiac rhythm management devices including implantable cardiac defibrillators.
  • Experience in clinical research or advanced qualifications in research methodology and basic science research would be considered advantageous.
  • Additional training, skills and capabilities in diagnostic, invasive or interventional cardiology would be well regarded.
  • The incumbent will be required to be an integral part of the after-hours and weekend on-call roster for general cardiology.

Salary information

  • Permanent part time (64 hours per fortnight)
  • Estimated total remuneration up to $387,905 p.a., comprising:
    • Senior Staff Specialist: Base hourly rate from $117 - $124.05 p.h
    • Staff Specialist: Base hourly rate from $97.84 - $113.65 p.h
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
