Job overview

The Surgical Pre Assessment department is looking for an experienced nurse to join our friendly team of Nurse Practitioners. You will start off as a band 5 and commence a comprehensive training and development pathway, on completion of competency sign offs you will automatically be promoted to band 6 which can take between 3-6 months.

Significant post registration experience within a surgical setting. Communicates effectively with a multidisciplinary team
Evidence of IT skills and ability to develop these skills further
Ability to drive to Lymington hospital as required

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on relevant part of the register
  • Evidence of on-going personal development
  • Working towards a degree in relevant area
  • Working towards completing History Taking and Physical Assessment course within 6 months
  • Working towards completing 6 Local Teaching Competencies Modules within 6 months
  • Working towards completing Local Training for ECG competency in the area within 6 months
Desirable criteria
  • Management Experience / Course
  • Advanced Health Assessment and Diagnosis course
  • Recognised teaching / mentorship qualification

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration experience within a surgical setting
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Understanding of personal accountability
  • Logical and consistent work and career pattern
Desirable criteria
  • Significant post registration experience within a surgical setting
  • Evidence of clinical leadership and managerial ability
  • Broad range of post registration experience including within a preoperative assessment setting
  • Worked autonomously in previous clinical roles

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited.  UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
