The Practice is a charitable, not for profit, community-controlled indigenous health provider to over 4000 residents of Yarrabah: Australia’s largest discrete First Nations community.
They provide culturally sensitive primary health care services in accordance with the Yarrabah Health Strategic Plan and is a member of both the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) alliance and Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC).

Position Description:
The position is responsible for the management of comprehensive primary health clinical services that are consistent with the ACCHO model of care and delivered to standards necessary to maintain Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and ISO 9001:2016 Quality Management Systems accreditation. Clinical leadership and governance including the development and implementation of strategies to manage quality and risk associated with clinical services, line leadership and development of multidisciplinary nursing, midwifery and care teams, and clinic operational and financial oversight of two disparately located clinics, are key responsibilities within the scope of this role.
Qualifications & Experience:

  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles of Aboriginal community control, cultural identity, practices and beliefs

  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership within a primary health care setting, including experience in multidisciplinary team supervision and development General leadership and management capability including governance, operational planning, risk management and continuous quality improvement

  • Proven ability to manage funded health programs including associated operational, contractual, and reporting outcomes and requirements

  • Demonstrated understanding of primary health care accreditation, regulatory and legislative requirements relevant to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO)

  • Interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills capable of influencing outcomes, including the ability to communicate effectively and credibly within an indigenous community setting

  • Agreement with and commitment to observing and upholding organisational mission, vision, and values and their application to this position

  • AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and a commitment to complying with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Competencies, Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Nurses in Australia

  • 5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse, with a minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar setting

  • Immunisation certificate appropriate to employment within a Queensland ACCHO setting

  • Queensland Drivers Licence

  • Ability to maintain a current CPR certificate

About Yarrabah:
The Yarrabah community lies to the east of Cairns. By road, it is placed about 60kilometres from Cairns. It takes about 45 minutes to travel by car from the Yarrabah Community to the Cairns CBD. Over the years, subsequent state government administrations forcibly relocated aboriginal and some south sea islander peoples from far and wide to Yarrabah.
