An exciting opportunity exists for a Nurse Practitioner Emergency Department Mental Health (NPMH) who is the most senior and expert clinical nurse within their area of practice in the Hospital and Health Service. They are an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team who practices autonomously but in collaboration with others to assess and manage patients within their clinical context using expert nursing knowledge and skills at an advanced level based on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Registered Nurse Standards of Practice.

Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS) is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south and Gympie in the north. 

This position is accountable for clinical practice, professional advice given and delegations of care and contributes expert nursing assessment and advice to achieve integrated nursing care within a risk management and best practice framework. 

The NPMH will primarily provide direct expert nursing care and will initiate, implement and monitor relevant interventional therapies and interpret diagnostic pathology as part of the role which also includes the authority to prescribe medications and initiate direct referrals to other healthcare professionals. 

The team is based in the Emergency Department at Nambour General Hospital and Sunshine Coast University Hospital and provides triage-intake and assessments of people referred for a mental health consult within the Emergency Departments. 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Accountable for NMBA and own standards, actions and the outcomes of own nursing/midwifery practice.
  • May have multi-site responsibilities within the defined scope of practice.
  • Provide direct individual or group care for a complete occasion of service to a defined patient population within a scope of practice.

Remuneration value up to $172,618 p.a., comprising salary between $144,913 - $151,292 p.a., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (Nurse Grade 8).
