You will provide high quality care and advice on the management of patients presenting to the ED as a including leading immediate diagnostic and resuscitative care for life-threatening conditions and provision of ongoing clinical care. You will coordinate and facilitate diagnosis, patient management and discharge planning, including provision of accurate, timely and legible medical records, including medical reports and discharge summaries. Manage the on-call, after hours and weekend rosters of the facility.
The Location Often called the 'Crossroads of the North' because of its location, this is the fourth largest town in the Northern Territory and is located 312 km south-east of Darwin on the Katherine River. With a population of over 11,000 people this is a modern thriving regional centre. The Region is 336,674 square kilometres, or almost the size of the Australian State of Victoria. The total population of the region is just over 24,000 people of which 60% identify as Indigenous. The Hospital This is a district public hospital servicing an area of 336,674 km2 (129,991 sq mi). Around 85% percent of the patients are Aboriginal people many from some of the most remote communities in Australia. It is operated by the Northern Territory Government Department of Health. The hospital provides a 24-hour emergency department as well as general medical and surgical wards, an operating theatre, a maternity ward, 18 bed children's ward, pathology, a radiography department equipped to perform basic x-ray and ultrasound scans, and a renal unit. Pharmacy and specialized outpatient services are also accessible.
Requirements
FACEM or equivalent and eligible for general/specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Recent relevant experience in clinical practice.
Demonstrated ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work environment.
