About the Role

The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is accountable at an advanced practice level for leading and coordinating the Coronary Care Unit and Ward 3E, to achieve best practice standards for clinical practice, patient centred care within a multi healthcare team and is responsible for the provision of effective and efficient human, material and financial resource management.

  • This role reports professionally and operationally to Assistant Nursing Director, Heart, Lung and Critical Care Services
  • This position has professional and operational responsibility of approximately 55 FTE.
  • The role has direct financial and human resource delegations in accordance with MSH Financial Sub-Delegations Manual and MSH Human Resource Sub-Delegations Manual. The Nurse Unit Manager provides comprehensive Human Resource management of nursing staff. Is responsible for recruitment, performance appraisal and the development of subordinate staff; whilst applying the Business Planning Framework principles for effective staffing and rostering inclusive of demand fluctuations and enables consistent high quality patient care.
  • Accountable for delivery of contemporary nursing practice, patient outcomes and the achievement of associated service performance targets/indicators within the Coronary Care Unit and Ward 3E.
  • Demonstrate advanced specialised Coronary Care Unit knowledge, experience, clinical skills and the application of evidenced informed nursing practice and theory.
  • Plan and lead the Coronary Care Unit and human, material and financial resource management strategies and processes, regularly evaluating to ensure effectiveness.
