The Maternal, Child and Family Midwifery Consultant (MCH CMC) - Cape York Outreach is required to deliver advanced primary midwifery and child health care, supporting best practice principles in caring for clients in the antenatal and post-natal period, children 0-8-year-old (with a main focus on 0-4-year-old children) and their families.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Advanced knowledge and practice in the application of evidenced based clinical management, diagnostic investigation and pharmacological management of women during pregnancy, postnatal period and infants within the first 1000 days.
  • Ability to provide advanced clinical leadership across the multi-disciplinary team that reflects the highest possible standards of relevant legislation and contemporary models of practice which includes quality improvement, maternal and neonatal research and professional development.
  • The ability to deliver primary health care programs in response to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mother's /carers, young children in the context of their families and the broader community in collaboration with the maternal and child health worker and others.
  • High level of clinical currency and competence in the practice arena of community based maternal and child health care that will support achieving the project aims and outcome measures.

Requirements for the role:

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to commencement of clinical duties. Current registration with the Australian health Practice Registration Authority (APHRA) as a registered nurse and current practising certificate is mandatory.
  • Experience of working in continuity of care or caseload models and/or remote settings and/or indigenous or cross-cultural settings are highly desirable.
  • A qualification in Midwifery is essential (postgrad or other).
