General/Trauma Surgeon CH-23-GNCH-SUR-GEN-TRA-02

Covenant Health in partnership with Alberta Health Services and the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, invites applications for a General/Trauma Surgeon to be based primarily at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

The successful applicants will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the Department of Surgery, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry .

Although this position is based primarily at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital, the successful candidate will work at several sites within the Edmonton Zone. This role will include 10-12 weeks of trauma surgery with equivalent night-time coverage, 6-7 weeks of Acute Care Surgery with equivalent night-time coverage, and 2 Elective OR day/month. The successful applicant will have a job description which includes a commitment to clinical care delivery, education and research. 

The General Surgery program presently consists of 61 General Surgeons and provides service to the City of Edmonton and surrounding communities. We provide specialized care in all aspects of General Surgery including hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation, general surgical oncology, head and neck surgery, endocrine surgery, trauma, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, upper GI surgery, bariatric surgery, breast surgery and minimally invasive surgery.

Required:

  • MD or equivalent.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • Recognized training in Trauma Surgery.
  • Certification in General Surgery with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Expertise and commitment to quality care and patient safety.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) in the healthcare environment . 
  • Understanding of Just Culture and its role in healthcare.
