Senior Theatre Practitioner- Paediatric Recovery

Job overview

We are looking for a highly skilled, motivated recovery practitioner with excellent leadership skills to join the senior paediatric recovery team at UHS. 

The post holder will have NMC/HCPC registration in either adult/paediatric/dual field with demonstrable experience within the paediatric recovery setting. Registered practitioners with dual adult and paediatric recovery competencies are welcome to apply, however the appointed person will be required to work within the paediatric recovery setting 75% of the time at minimum.

The post is currently available at 32.5 hours per week, with the opportunity to increase to 37.5 hours per week when staffing budget allows. 

The UHS theatre complex is made up of 35 operating theatres and 6 recovery rooms. We cover both elective and emergency theatre recovery services for adults and children including orthopaedic, neuro,  ENT, max fax, urology, cardiovascular and thoracic, gynae, opthalmology and general surgery providing a recovery service for up to 34,000 patients per year.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Your Responsibilities

What you’ll do
•    Act as recovery co-ordinator, with an overall view of all recovery areas and supporting workforce, flow and patient safety. 
•    Work clinically within the team in recovery
•    Lead the team on a shift
•    Ensure safe staffing levels and skill mix, meeting the complex needs of the service
•    Support staff personally and professionally, building good rapport and trust within a pastoral team
•    Escalate concerns in a timely manner, offering safe solutions utilising reasoning skills and sound decision making.  
•    Ensuring the highest standards of care in a clean, safe environment. 
•    Promote a friendly and healthy working environment, ensuring staff feel equipped to do their job to the highest standard possible with the ability to raise concerns confidently and appropriately. 

What we’re looking for
 . 
•    Foundation management course or equivalent desirable but not essential. 
•    Evidence of excellent leadership skills
•    The ability to motivate and influence teams towards common goals/vision.
•    Critical care /Post anaesthetic care experience including high standard/knowledge of different specialities 
•    Auditing and quality improvement skills.
•    Compassion, empathy and other interpersonal skills

  • Relevant professional registration with NMC or HCPC
  • Post graduate speciality specialist training.
  • Educated to master’s degree level or equivalent level of knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
  • Evidence of on-going personal and professional development
  • Advanced Communication Skills
  • Psychological Assessment course
  • Teaching and presentation aptitude or courses
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Non-Medical Prescriber

Previous or relevant experience necessary

  • Extensive clinical experience of working within chosen speciality
  • Post Registration experience and proven evidence of leadership or change management
  • Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives / pressures
  • Evidence of ability to change or initiate practice
  • Experience of managing change or transformation

  • Able to use initiative and give rationale for own decisions
  • Ability to work autonomously undertaking expanded roles
  • Able to prioritise and delegate appropriately
  • Basic keyboard skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes.
