The Hospital:
This is Australia's second oldest hospital opening in 1804, and is a major clinical teaching and research centre working closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. The hospital provides acute, sub acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services to a population of about 240,000 people and has 550 physical beds, including 460 acute overnight and 90 day beds.

The Position:

Fixed-term, full-time or part-time hours available, 80 hours per fortnight .

23 beds ICU Department with over 1500 admissions per year. A broad case-mix that includes cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, major trauma and burns, all the surgical subspecialties and complex cardiology, medical, haematology and oncology patients.

The Senior Registrar position includes ‘first on-call’ after hours from home, supported by a consultant.
 
This is a very senior role requiring significant intensive care experience and knowledge, the ability to manage the unit with multiple complex patients and to coordinate new referrals. It involves supervising, teaching and delegating to Registrars, SRMOs and RMOs including some who are CICM, ACEM and ANZCA advanced trainees.

The Requirements:
Two years full time, broad Intensive Care Medicine experience and be genuinely independent with initiating complex resuscitation, and with procedures and airway management in critically ill adult patients. Advanced vascular access ultrasound skills are very advantageous.
