The role 

• Efficiently operate switchboard equipment by responding professionally to all incoming calls to the hospital, ensuring that the caller is transferred or redirected correctly and in a timely manner.
• Perform general administrative duties to contribute to the effective daily operations of the Switchboard & Interpreter Services Unit.  This will include maintenance of on-call information for medical and allied health staff.
• Communicate regularly with all departments of the hospital to maintain accurate and current records for effective switchboard operations.
• Provide basic level support of digital enhanced cordless telecommunication (DECT) and pager equipment for hospital staff.
• Operate alternative communication systems to regularly liaise with hospital staff in the event of an emergency or security response situation.
• Exercise judgment and initiative by identifying emergency situations from incoming calls and respond immediately according to emergency code procedures, strictly adhering to protocols and timeframes.
• Comply with, and adhere to, Queensland Health policies, procedures, standards and legislation relevant to the role and work area.
• Execute ethical decision-making in the achievement of departmental and organisational objectives.
• Prioritise workload effectively and perform duties responsibly in the absence of supervision.
• Participate in a 24-hour roster, 7 days a week.

• Salary rates between $46.35 - $51.54 p.h. (casual rate) (AO3)

Role requirements   

• This position will require the ability to work varied hours in compliance with operational hours of the Switchboard Services Unit.
• This position is casual and will require being contactable outside of business hours for available shifts.
