CONSULTANT IN PLASTIC SURGERY WITH INTEREST IN SKIN, HAND, AND PERINEAL RECONSTRUCTION SURGERY

This post is a permanent position on a 10 PA contract (8 DCC; 2 SPA).  This post is immediately available and is offered on a whole time basis. Less than full time could be considered.

The Plastic Surgery Unit serves the North East of Scotland covering a widely scattered population of over 630,000. This post is offered as a General Plastic Surgery post preferably with a specialist interest in Skin Cancer, Hand Surgery and Perineal Reconstruction. The successful candidate will join 5 full time and 2 part time Consultants based at the teaching hospital of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The Plastic Surgery Unit carries out additional operating and outpatient sessions in Elgin and a number of peripheral locations throughout the North East, predominantly at Stracathro. Close links exist between a number of other specialties on site and with an excellent range of support services on site.

The responsibilities of the post include elective Plastic Surgery inpatient and outpatient services at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, with possible sessions at Stracathro Hospital, Brechin. There will be an equal share of the 1:7 on call rota for emergency work, which covers both Adult and Paediatric Plastic Surgery. The duties of the post include involvement in undergraduate and post graduate training. It is likely that the University of Aberdeen will accord the Honorary Status of Clinical Senior Lecturer for this post.

The North East of Scotland is a delightful place to live, with easy access to the Coast, Royal Deeside and to the Highlands. The area offers opportunities for many outdoor pursuits including hill walking, mountain biking and mountaineering.

Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe, is a cosmopolitan city with a variety of good bars and restaurants as well as several shopping centres. There are active theatre, concert hall and art gallery programmes. Established air, rail and sea links provide easy access for travel throughout the UK and beyond; for example there are more than 15 flights daily each way between Aberdeen and London.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. 

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).    

 Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
