Job Description

• Demonstrate advanced nursing knowledge and clinical competence in antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship interventions to ensure that antimicrobials are used safely with the best possible outcomes. Act as an advisor and resource person within area of specialty.
• Develop effective working relationships with ward nursing to facilitate improvements in nurses’ level of involvement and influence on antibiotic prescribing and administration. Develop strong links with colleagues in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) and Infection Prevention & Control team offering nurse leadership enabling a multi-disciplinary approach to stewardship.
• Adopt the key principles that apply to the selection of diagnostic tests and optimal sample collection and transport. As part of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Team, review of usage of key antibiotics (e.g. alert antibiotics) and management of key HAI’s (e.g CDI), particularly in important therapeutic areas.
• Follow Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) prescribing principles before, during and after the consultation. Prescribe according to Therapeutic Guidelines: Antibiotic and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Care Standard.
• Collect, analyze and report back to clinical teams the antimicrobial prescribing indicator data mandated by accreditation standards. Participate and support the organization in the collection & analysis of antimicrobial prescribing pattern data to identify areas for improvement and involvement in audit e.g. point prevalence surveys. Improve appropriateness of antimicrobial prescribing, reduce unnecessary antimicrobial use.
• Prepare and present reports on antimicrobial audits for the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) and other appropriate committees.
• Establish and maintain links by liaising with other professionals from within and outside MNGHA to share best practice and promote excellence. Implement collaborative agreements in antimicrobial stewardship as needed.
• Disseminate models of practice through conference presentations and local teaching activities. Disseminate good practice and service innovation by means of lecturing, research and publication. Assist, lead the development of new Antimicrobial Stewardship modules, providing subject matter expertise related to Antimicrobial surveillance/stewardship.
• Support identification of training needs for nursing, medical and pharmacy staff related to antimicrobial prescribing and support the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in the development and delivery of training packages to meet these needs.
• Conduct and participate in conferences and workshops with local health departments and professional associations relative to Antimicrobial Stewardship/Antimicrobial resistance; provides instruction by demonstrating nursing techniques or explaining principles and theory. Establish or participate in Antimicrobial Stewardship interest group or a network for nurse practitioners (i.e. a community of practice).
• Assess trends and developments in health care and nursing; identify Antimicrobial Stewardship program needs, and projects the impact of changes on programs and services. Identify and create necessary Antimicrobial Stewardship module/manual updates resulting from technological advancements, infection/disease trends, changing or broadening infection prevention and nursing responsibilities. Review current published literature on Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, infection prevention and nursing -related issues and notifies appropriate staff when new significant developments or issues appear.

Education:

Bachelor Degree in Nursing or equivalent from an accredited institution – Essential
Master Degree in Nursing or equivalent from an accredited institution–Preferred
Current licensure as a professional registered nurse – Essential
Registration with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties – Essential

Work Experience:

Minimum of 5 (five) years’ current clinical nursing experience – Essential

English Language: Level I – Essential
