Temporary Part-time opportunity (0.2 FTE) for 8 months with the possibility of extension.

About the role

This role is integral to the endocrinology stream of the PICS service. Working closely with the Diabetes Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Director Prevention, other Staff Specialists, senior nursing staff and allied health professionals, the PICS Endocrinology Staff Specialist provides high level clinical expertise to staff and patients of the service. Liaison and co-ordination with the Director of Endocrinology, other clinical departments, private partners and state-wide networks is critical, as is the development of Endocrinology models of care within a multidisciplinary team environment.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Commitment to the principles of quality in health care including leading initiatives relating to quality improvement, research, risk management, service evaluation and strategic service delivery planning.
  • Extensive clinical experience with appropriate knowledge and skills extending across the field of Endocrinology, with an ability to deliver quality speciality care to patients in a clinical setting including directing the process of assessment, admission, ongoing care, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Contribute to the establishment and fostering of relationships within the medical specialities of the Division of Preventative and Prison Health Services, between the Department and other Hospital and Health Service departments and services to ensure the continuum of care for the patient.
  • Commitment to leading the performance, development and evaluation of the
  • education programme for clinicians at an undergraduate and post graduate level
  • Applied sound business management skills to plan the financial function of the service.
  • Enables collaboration and enhances connectivity in the provision of a Medical Service within a multi-disciplinary team by demonstrating effective communication and promoting understanding, respect and trust between different groups and professions
  • Commitment to self-development and continuous self-improvement.
  • Demonstrated honesty, integrity and respect for all patients, carers and staff

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16(PDF) ( https://www.health.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/150120/hed-0116.pdf )
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent and be eligible for Specialist Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation
  • Enrolment and maintenance of an ongoing Continuing Medical Education
