About you:

In your new role you will…

  • Demonstrate high level knowledge, expertise and skill in Occupational Therapy relevant to the acute setting in a hospital environment, including demonstrated ability to integrate current professional development and evidence-based practice principles into clinical management.
  • Demonstrate high level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise and consult with patients/clients and their families across the health continuum, all levels of staff within the interdisciplinary team and organisation, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide provide clinical supervision to less experienced personnel and students.

About your opportunity:

In this position you will deliver high level Occupational Therapy clinical services across Cairns Hospital and Gordonvale Hospital medical wards and other clinical areas as directed, with appropriate community liaison.

To provide leadership, mentoring and supervision to Occupational Therapists, Allied Health Assistants and less experienced members of the multidisciplinary team, whilst assisting in the ongoing development of acute medical and Occupational Therapy services within Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service.

About your role:

  • Utilise high level clinical knowledge, expertise and decision making based upon current evidence, to provide safe and efficient service delivery to multiple service areas on a daily basis across the continuum of care.
  • Involvement in service provision to patients as part of the Occupational Therapy Department acute seven-day service and out of hours roster as operationally required.
  • Provide clinical practice supervision, education, mentoring and assisting with core skills training and development and performance management of less experienced Occupational Therapy practitioners, allied health assistants, support staff and students within scope of practice guidelines to ensure the development and maintenance of clinical standards.
  • Provide leadership within the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams in promoting and conducting activities aimed at continuous quality improvement including the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of clinical services service, review of clinical practices, work instructions and procedures.
