Use your medical typing skills to transcribe electronic and handwritten medical reports into the laboratory information system in a proficient manner to meet reporting deadlines. This will include all medical typing and registration, including participating in the state-wide typing pool.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to deal with people at all levels of the organisation and external agencies.
  • Organisational skills and the ability to use initiative, delegate and be adaptable when performing or administering tasks in a constantly changing and dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to establish, manage and maintain office systems and databases.  High level skills in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, to accurately complete and prioritize work and to be flexible and dynamic in a highly client focused environment.
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology and experience in medical typing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of private pathology billing practices and their Health Insurance Commission compliances is desirable. 

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • Experience in medical typing and a sound knowledge of medical terminology are highly desirable.
  • Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
