Under the direction of the Mental Health & Addictions Residential and Recovery Team Leader, the Lifeskills Support Worker provides assistance for individuals with serious mental illness in a residential setting to effectively enter and participate in rehabilitation by providing a variety of day-to-day physical, emotional, and social supports, advocacy, life skills assistance, information, resources, and demonstrations.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Social Service Diploma or a Resident Care Attendant Program Certificate and a Community Mental Health Worker Course and two (2) years’ experience working with clients with a serious mental illness or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
• Food Safe Course.
• Valid First Aid Certificate and CPR.
• Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
• May be required to use personal vehicle at work

• Ability to work in an independent living model with adults with a mental illness.
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
• Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
• Ability to organize work and prioritize.
• Ability to teach in-group and one-to-one settings.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Good time management skills.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation.
• Knowledge of psychiatric disorders, medications and side effects.
• Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation.
• Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
